DAY 01 – ARRIVAL –NEGOMBO
Upon arrival at the Colombo Bandaranayake International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a representative from Sampath Tours management for your transfer to the west coast of Sri Lanka – Negombo.
Negombo- A traditional fishing town in Sri Lanka where you can find wide sandy beaches and the safe sea. You can see fish auctions, fish market and fisherman pulling nets to the shore and Mthurajawela Marsh in the evening.
Muthurajawela Marsh translated as ‘Swamp of Royal Treasure,’ is home to a variety of flora and fauna includes 40 species of fish, 14 species of reptiles, 102 species of birds and 22 species of mammals. The boat ride at Muthurajawela provides a memorable experience in the coastal wetland ecosystem situated toward the southern end of Negombo Lagoon and allow you to keep an eye out for crocodiles, monkeys, water monitors, and birds.
DAY 02 – NEGOMBO- MINNERIYA NATIONAL PARK- HABARANA
Habarana- A popular tourist destination for safari lovers due to the nearby National Wild Life Parks; Kaudulla, Minneriya, and Hurulu wewa Eco Park, which has a huge population of elephants.
Minneriya National Park- Get an unforgettable experience of elephant safaris that cut through the lake into the forest. Travel to a wilderness refuge known for hosting one of the largest gatherings of Asian elephants on earth, observing these giant creatures as they drink, feed, and congregate. Other than, you will get a chance to observe numerous species of birds, deer, wild rabbits, and wild boar as a bonus.
DAY 03 – HABARANA- SIGIRIYA- KANDY
Sigiriya- A world heritage site and the “Fortress in the Sky” which is perhaps the most fantastic single wonder of the Island. Sigiriya rock was a royal citadel for nearly twenty years and this great exciting site is nearly one hectare in extent. This fortress in the shape of a lion is a masterpiece of ancient architecture.
Kandy – A world heritage city, the capital of the Central Province and Sri Lanka’s most visited tourist destination. Kandy is in the middle of the mountains and its beauty is enhanced by the lake and the river Mahaweli and the Royal Botanical Garden Peradeniya.
DAY 04 –KANDY- NUWARA ELIYA
Kandy is one of the most sacred sites as it is the home of the “Dalada Maligawa” – Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha and in the morning you can visit this sacred place.
On your way to Nuwara Eliya you can observe few waterfalls Devon, Ramboda and a tea factory where the world-famous Ceylon Tea comes from.
Nuwara Eliya -The “Little England” of Sri Lanka offers you everything as any other town does. Its unique climate, the atmosphere, beautiful backdrops of mountains, valleys, waterfalls tea plantations. The Victoria Park, in the middle of the town and you can take leisure walks around the beautiful lake Gregory and enjoy stunning scenery with rugged mountains outlined against clear blue sky making a breath-taking backdrop.
DAY 05 –HORTON PLANS NATIONAL PARK- YALA
Horton Plains National Park – Visit world-famous Horton Plains National Park, surrounded by gorgeous sceneries over the highlands of 2,300 meters above sea level. Horton Plains is filled with endemic plants and animals, where more than 20 mammals recorded and the most commonly seen is the Sambar Deer. Toque Macaques, Purple-faced Langurs, Rusty-spotted Cat, Sri Lankan Leopards, Wild boars, Stripe-necked Mongooses and several species of birds and fish.
After the Horton Plan visit drive to the down south of the country.
DAY 06 – SAFARI AT YALA NATIONAL PARK
Yala National Park – The most visited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka combines with a strict nature reserve. Yala is home to several varieties of mammal and bird species. Among its more famous residents are the world’s biggest concentration of leopards, majestic elephants, sloth bears, sambars, jackals, spotted deer, peacocks, and crocodiles. You can spend an amazing day among wild animals with an adventure safari.
DAY 07 AND 08 – YALA – USSANGODA NATIONAL PARK- MIRISSA
Ussangoda National Park– A place to see and feel – a completely different geological formation consisting of a deep red and hard soil like it had been baked in a heated oven. The view is spectacular, and it is a strange plateau, fully exposed, several meters higher than the sea. This park is only covered with grasses and a few small bushes and you can observe several species of birds as this place is adjacent to Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary. The beach is also lovely with red and black cliffs, ending in a white sandy beach.
Mirissa- One of the best places in the world to spot blue whales and enjoying the sun and cooling off in the waters at the beach. Mirissa’s sandy beaches give life to your fantasies of tropical heaven and allow you to enjoy your journey with snorkeling and smooth surfing.
DAY 09 –MIRISSA- KANNELIYA RAIN FOREST- HIKKADUWA
Kanneliya rain forest- Regarded as one of the most biologically diverse areas in the country as well as in the world, which is designated as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The forest homes to a diverse range of flora and fauna. You might see monkeys, snakes, chameleons, extensive birdlife, a vast range of tropical trees, plants, waterfalls and streams which create beautiful cascades inside the forest. This is one of the best places in Sri Lanka where you can observe endemic and wet zone-specific fauna including numerous amphibians and fish species.
Hikkaduwa- One of the best places in Sri Lanka where tourists can mingle with the beauty of the ocean via coral viewing through glass bottom boats. You can visit Hikkaduwa National Park where contains a fringing coral reef with a high degree of biodiversity.
DAY 10 -HIKKADUWA- MADU RIVER- KOSGODA- BENTHOTA
Madu River- A relatively unspoiled lagoon with many important ecological characteristics like abundant mangroves located in the south of Sri Lanka. Madu River is a braided river with 64 small islands and where the banks are all covered with lush mangrove forests that are home to dozens of incredible animal species. During your boat ride at Madu River, you can observe hundreds of tropical birds, some mammals, butterflies, mollusks species and reptiles including snakes, lizards and especially crocodiles.
Kosgoda- A small coastal village in the southwest of the country where you can enjoy your day with amazing beaches and Turtles. Enjoy visiting the Kosgoda Turtle Hatcheries and get a chance to see sea turtles of various species in the different stages of their lives. Help feed the turtles or volunteer for a first-hand experience with these interesting creatures.
Benthota- An area attracts tourists due to its picturesque beauty, especially its lovely palm-fringed beaches. Many fascinating rural lifestyles and traditional occupations like river fishing and wood carving can be seen in and around Benthota.
DAY 11 – BENTHOTA- DEPARTURE
Transfer to Colombo airport for departure in time for your departure flight.
